GPRS Air Interface

Exploring GPRS Air Interface

GPRS builds on the basic GSM structure. In order to be able to carry the packet data and to increase the data rates that can be carried by the GPRS technology, it has been necessary to make some upgrades to the GPRS radio interface. This course provides detailed description of the necessary upgrades required in the radio interface followed by a study of GPRS protocol stack.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the GPRS Spectrum and its relationship to GSM.
  • Understand the channel structure in GPRS.
  • Explain how the GPRS service might be provided using GSM channels.
  • Explore the various radio interface protocols.
  • Understand how multiple users are multiplexed into resource as well as how one user may use multiple channels.
Target Audience
